Robert Carmichael was born in 1998, to a family of musicians. Throughout his early childhood he was surrounded by music and quickly developed a passion for the classical trumpet. In high school, he began taking lessons with his father, Dr. John C. Carmichael, a talented conductor and trumpet player. It was from the support of his family that he decided to pursue trumpet playing as a career.
In 2016, he began studying under Dr. James Stokes at Appalachian State University, and in 2020, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Music Education, as well as with certificates in both jazz performance and classical performance. In his time at Appalachian State, Robert worked with guest artists such as Jamie Abersold, Ansyn Banks, Chuck Owen, and John Mackey.
